Pretty in Pink! Do you remember it? The movie from the ’80s? Let me refresh your memory with this trailer.
Molly Ringwald lovers unite and stand up! Pretty in Pink is the inspiration for the title of this post. Why? Because my husband always says I look pretty in pink and yet I rarely have any pink hanging in my closet. Why? I’m not sure but I’m on the path to change that for a couple of reasons.
First, I have a very basic dress code for work. I can only wear black, grey, navy, green, brown, khaki, cream and white. Some patterns are allowed but within those color schemes. Plus I have to have our logo displayed all the time and every day. At first, I was totally okay with the color constraints. Makes life easy and I love neutrals. But six months in and I’m dying for color and patterns. Enter pink!
Second, I’ve decided to make some changes. I might just make pink “my temporary color” or at least be intentional to add some of it to my wardrobe. I’ve decided I do like pink and maybe I feel a little bold when I wear it. In the past, I might have thought I was drawing attention to myself in pink, but now I look at it as being bold and embracing myself.
A while back I found this cute little skirt on clearance at Loft Factory Store. When I tried it on I fell in love. Perfect fit, perfect amount of stretch and I adore A-line skirts.
The simple and cute and fun shade of pink. Perfect for the office…but not where I work. Sadness!
Is there a color you’re afraid to wear or you think doesn’t look the best on you? Do it anyway! Give it a shot because you might just find out you “look pretty in pink {or another color}” too! Oh, pink I think I might love you! I do know I love this song from The Patridge Family. Enjoy the 70’s.
One last thought for the day. If you read my post on Monday {here}, then you know I’ve been celebrating a little, especially that my colonoscopy went well. The reason I bring it up again is that I’ve realized I’ve carried a burden for more than five years by avoiding having it done. That burden has dragged me down, drowned me in worry, and thus used up my time and brain space needlessly. I feel as though the burden is totally lifted and my brain is free and my confidence is renewed. Are you carrying something that is weighing you down? Face it – deal with it – get it done! Why? Because life is too short to waste. For me, I’ve got five years to makeup and I’ve got to get moving forward.
Have the best day, friends!
xoxo ~ Carrie

First of all, the shoes are so great on you – chic yet sassy 🙂 Second, I love this idea of giving yourself a “temporary color” like this. It totally looks great on you! And thinking of it as “temporary”, something you’re just trying out, is a great way to try it on one or two items that mix in really well with a neutral wardrobe. I love how a colored skirt (or shorts) can be a fun pop in an outfit with neutral top/shoes, and also how it can be used to pull out one color of a patterned top. Very cute!

These shoes are my favorite – they are my go almost every day!! Steve Madden knocked it out of the park with these. I love a pop of color too on the bottom! It’s so fun!

I’ve got to have some color in my life. The neutrals, which I typically love are killing me.

Love love love! So crazy that your work dress code is so strict! I stay away from yellow, only because it looks terrible on me and makes my skin look yellow and makes me look sick. Haha! Yay for finally conquering that fear.
Carrie says
I agree, friend about yellow on you. It’s not your color but the brights – like pink and red are perfect for you! xoxo

Good job for getting that test Carrie!!
I just adore this skirt. I’m not sure I could handle that dress code…eeek!!

The dress code has been hard for me lately. I’m missing choosing my own pieces and colors. But a girl has got to eat, right. xoxo

I love John Hughes films and Pretty in Pink is one of my favorites! I also religiously watched the Partridge Family growing up! Your work dress code would be hard but at least you can wear whatever you want off hours! Your skirt is adorable and I love the patch pockets!

So glad your colonoscopy went well first of all and glad I stopped by here again as I see you blogging. =) I love you in Pink. Loft has the cutest skirts and I recognized that they may be one of their pieces. Love the blouse too. Too bad you can only wear neutrals to work. You do look LOVELY however, Carrie. =)
