It’s day fifteen today with the #write28days. I confess I did get confused on my days, but today I’m on track.
beau·ti·ful ~ pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically
Beauty, beautiful, beautifully…these words can pertain to humans, nature, art, and objects. The role of beauty takes many forms and has over history. I am most intrigued by human beauty these days.
Hasn’t it been said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder? Doesn’t beauty or what makes a person beautiful come from within? I’ve heard those words repeated over and over again during my lifetime. I think both ideas can be true, but in 2023, what our culture defines as beauty may need new eyes to discern beauty and dig deep to find beauty within. As I gaze around the landscape of culture, it seems that beauty takes some strange nuances, whether it’s on the outside or inside of a person.
Is beauty defined by youth or injected skin to remain youthful looking? When did aging become an unspeakable lifestyle? I look at photos of my grandma and she simply accepted her age and didn’t try to look or act like a teenager. I respect that.
My mom aged well but she always colored her hair. I get it, I do too. She would not have considered anything like botox or fillers. I don’t think those things appeal to me either.
I thought my grandma and mom were beautiful ladies. Their lives and hearts spoke loudly and their lines and wrinkles didn’t matter because of the women they were and the lives they lived. They weren’t shallow but solid.
I think I want to be in the company of people who think like God when he was choosing a king. It makes me think about what is really important. What’s on the inside where the real beauty is contained.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” ~ 1 Samuel 16:7
Or the words written in Isaiah about Jesus. He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. ~ Isaiah 53:2
I’m going to stick with the Lord and his views of people. It’s the heart that matters most.
Blessings to you ~ Carrie

Carrie, this certainly is a “beautiful” post. I loved hearing about your grandma & mom’s beauty. I stopped coloring my hair about a year ago because I decided to embrace my gray. Age is honored in the Bible and your right I’m going to stick with the Lord too.
