It’s the 10th of January already? Typically, January seems like a long month and so transitional, but work has been crazy as we navigate informing the public and prepare for the ongoing vaccinations for COVID. Days have flown by with a myriad of activities so many January will follow suit.
Today, I’m linking with my friend Leslie who blogs at Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After for the 10 on the 10th. I’m going to work to be faithful to this post each month. Keeping my fingers crossed I can really get myself on schedule and blog on a regular basis.
This month it’s all about 10 memories from 2020. The year we all want to forget and yet we can’t and probably shouldn’t because there are always lessons to learn.
- Living with my friend, Carrie, was a sweet time of community. We shared meals, daily struggles, and lots of laughs. One day during the beginning of our Stay at Home order we ventured out to deliver care packages to all of her students. Here’s what crazy friends do for other crazy friends. You dress up in costume and drive a million miles to each student’s home. Umm, yes that is my husband dressed up as Pooh!
2. You also celebrate birthdays. Since my friend Carrie and my husband have the same birthday we celebrated with lots of our girlfriends. Did I mention Carrie loves costumes? Well, she does…oh and this was pre-pandemic so clearly I’m not going chronologically, which goes against my previous teacher ways but we’re going with it today.
3. Not only was I happy to wake up every day in Texas but I was here to celebrate Texas Independence Day, which is March 12.
4. Pre-pandemic I was able to hear Lysa TerKeurst speak at a local church. The house was packed. Went with some of my besties.
5. I tried to be consistent reading Jesus Calling and my Bible. I loved reading Jesus Calling because it was my mom’s and could see her highlighting and learn from her heart.
6. I started a new job as the Communications Coordinator for the County Judge. Tough place to be during a pandemic but I learned a ton and grew in so many ways. I accepted a promotion in Community Relations, but am still the author of the Judge’s newsletter and other writings. I am really blessed. Currently, this is where I office.
7. I turned 57 and was Frenchy famous one more time around town.
8. We were Frenchy famous for our anniversary as well, but he was off by a 4 years…but hey it’s a pandemic. Celebrate accordingly!
9. My dad turned 91 in February and was the king of Valentine’s Day. Hope to see him soon!
10. I started the year with the word, Present. I’m always looking back and forward and not always settled in the here and now. I sure wasn’t perfect with being Present, but I definitely did learn to slow more and live just a little more in the moment.
Trying to look back on memories is a good way to reminisce about the good. These days it seems “normal” to allow the bad to be a distraction. Walking away with the good from 2020 in my heart and learning to be grateful.
Have a lovely day, my friends! And finally, why not join in for 2021. Check out the prompts!
~grace & blessings to you, Carrie

What a year. I love your word for the year. I decided to use my word that I had chosen for last year since I kind of forgot all about it, and that is “delight”. We’ll see how it goes.

Darling friend, what a great post. Love all the smiling pre-pandemic get togethers.
I was fortunate to see Lysa TerKeurst at our church a couple of years ago. She was so good. Spoke right my heart. Big fan of hers now. Miss church so much. For awhile we went on Saturday nights and it was like a date. Then switched to Sunday mornings with breakfast out afterward. Miss those good messages. I am too easily distracted to do very well with online service but I am trying.
What an impressive job you have!! And equally impressive building in which you work. Very pretty. Some day I am going to get to Denton. I graduated from North Texas with my Master’s and never set foot on campus!
Your dad is quite dapper and Dale is a very hip Pooh!! Ya’ll have such fun. Good for you. Hope you enjoyed a comfortable weekend in your own home!!
Thanks for joining me and thanks for the mention.

Please come to Denton!! I had no idea you graduated from UNT. I graduated from the university across town – TWU. This was such a fun post to write. Thanks for hosting!

Looks like you had quite a lot of good in 2020, which is wonderful!! Love your husband’s Winnie the Pooh costume. And the word Present sounds like a good one for 2021.
