The Grace of Seasons
Happy first Monday of Daylight Savings…the spring ahead version. If you are like me the alarm seemed to go off earlier than usual. No pun intended as we are all in this together. I am looking forward to longer days as soon as my body adjusts to losing that one hour of sleep.
As the season of spring enters center stage, I have been reminded of the grace found in the changing of seasons. Just as I sit in anticipation of warmer days, I know as the clock ticks and pages of the calendar change, I will welcome cooler temperatures down the road. What a gift from the Creator to give us seasons. It is easy to take the awakening of the dormant for granted. However, this year I feel especially drawn to spring. I am noticing the budding trees, the grass turning green, and the warmer temperatures as I head to the office.
Why does spring feel especially magical this year? It always arrives exactly when and how it is supposed to, doesn’t it? I’ve been wondering if it seems more magical this year because of the horrific winter storms in Texas just one short month ago. So much has changed in that month in regards to our weather. Those bitter cold days makes the sunshine seems so much more special.
Isn’t this how the Lord can work to shake us out of our comfort and lives of entitlement or even our fear? Sometimes He can bring change through something large or something small. Remember how He spoke in a small whisper to Elijah? Elijah was running from Jezebel because she pledged to kill him and in fear, Elijah ran away and hid.
11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. ~ 1 Kings 19:11-13
The sweet voice of spring this year reminds me of that gentle whisper to Elijah. Living in Texas, the weather is bound to be filled with storms of high winds, hail, and tornadoes, but for now, the winds are calm and the sunshine is warm. A season filled with grace.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1
The grace of seasons, sunshine, and re-birth remind me that the world seems to be changing quickly and constantly, but changing of the seasons belongs to the Lord. He created them in the beginning and they still belong to Him. They are ushered in exactly on time. I’m grateful He made things with beauty and spring reveals that beauty in grass, flowers, and sunshine. I think most people are grateful for those simple pleasures.
I hope you have the best week!
