Gosh, not only is it a New Year, but it’s a new blog post after a long hiatus. As typical, I am trying to be consistent and blog on a regular basis. Since my day job entails writing, I find my brain exhausted and my fingers tired when I try to sit down and write for myself instead of others. But, hey! The best I can do it just try to make it happen as often as the words appear.
I’m thankful to be here writing and sharing a Currently post. It’s always been one of my favorite post to write and read a few posts from bloggers. Grateful to Anne at Anne in Residence for continually being consistent to host this link-up.
Anticipating ~ I am looking forward to a New Year. I have a few things I really want to focus on and accomplish in the 365 days of 2022. The last 2-3 years have been a whirlwind of troubles that drew me away from my goals. I believe my husband and I are in a place of being more settled and that will lend itself to being able to focus on goals.
Organizing ~ I have already been doing some organizing, especially in my clothes closet. With so much loss in the last 2-3 years, I really have started to take stock of myself. One area is what I wear. Truly, I started blogging because clothes were my problem. Through that problem, it has become worse in the sense of losing myself while trying to create styles form style challenges and capsule wardrobes. Neither of which are truly me. So, I went through my closet and really purged. After three large bags full of clothes, purses and shoes were sold at a resale store, I am feeling like what is before me are things that make me feel like me. Side note: I wore a new sweater to work the other day, which I loved. No one said a word about it and I didn’t care. It was something I truly adored and made me feel like me. That is success, my friends!
Reading ~ Oh my! I have fallen off the reading wagon too during those chaotic years. But I’ve done some planning for books I want to read. I’ve put quite a few on hold at the library and hopefully it will reopen soon according to their original plan. Too many Covid cases in their ranks right now. My current read and not audiobook is When Strivings Cease. Perfect for where I am right now in my walk with the Lord.
Resolving ~ Those resolutions have killed me in the past, so I’ve said NO to them. I have had a Word of the Year for a few years, and that has been helpful. This year, it is Rooted: establish firmly and deeply; stable; thoroughly grounded. My goals include service, generosity, growth, community, health and personal. Each of those categories have components and developed ideas for what I actually want to accomplish.
Scheduling ~ I am trying to schedule an eye doctor appointment, as well as a hormonal specialist. Right there out of the box for 2022, I’m working to accomplish some of my goals (health).
I hope 2022 is a time I will be able to manage my life in a way where I can show up to blog and share pieces of my life with you. Here’s to hope!
Blessings ~ Carrie

I pray that 2022 is a settled year for you. I like your new sweater and I need to schedule an optometrist appointment too.

That book looks so good, Ruth Chou Simons is such an encouragement! A big clothes purge is needed once in a while, I hope your new simplified wardrobe makes you feel like yourself. Happy New Year!

Rooted. What a good word for the year. I believe I even chose it one year (somewhere in my past) but I never have much luck with those one-word resolutions, etc. But I do like the concept of becoming more firmly planted in the year ahead. Really appreciated your thoughts on your organizing as well. Here’s to a blessed year ahead!

I so understand the notion of not being able to write or be creative for yourself when you do it as a day job. I have that feeling of exhaustion a. lot of times myself. It is not the ideas that are missing but more the words that can’t come out quiet right. And before doing something that doesn’t feel right not do it at all.
I really really need to work through my closet. There is so much stuff in there that I would love to wear but can’t fit. So much stuff that fits but that I don’t particular like. It is just sad. I started with the sock and underwear drawer. I guess small steps.
I wonder what will end up on your reading list. Always curious about the books other people like to pick up.
And I love love love your word of the year choice. I can feel the power it can give. I hope it suits you well and you can enjoy how it guides you through 2022.

Rooted. Great word. I long to be rooted and have routine and days that look similar to one another. But I don’t think I am there yet. I keep hoping for a bit time when I feel in charge of my life. But not there yet, either. So my word is probably going to be flow as in go with the flow.
I need to sort through my closet with a discerning eye, too. While I love Alison and the capsule wardrobe challenges, I have purchased things I have only worn once or twice. For the most part, I get the things that I am not certain about on sale or from a discount store. But it is a shame to buy something at any price and only wear it once. So, I need to have a serious come to Jesus with my closet.
Glad for you to be taking care of yourself and your health. Sure loved the photo of you with your father at lunch. How nice that you can pop in to see him at lunch. I would love being able to do that with my mom.
Looking forward to connecting with you more this year. Happy 2022.

Rooted – such a powerful word for the year! On the surface it sounds the opposite of my word, Release. But in order to release what I don’t need, I need to be rooted in Christ. So our words really have a lot in common. 🙂
